Tomatoes and Soya

Antioxidants help us in warding off heart disease. They also help in slowing degeneration of brain and eyes. These neutralize highly reactive, destructive compounds called free radicals. Here are five popular antioxidants-
Tomatoes
They contain lycopene, which can ward off cancer, prevent muscular degeneration and cataracts, and help maintain mental function. Note: Tomatoes cooked in oil are preferable because lycopene is fat soluble and oil improves its absorption.
Soya:
It can prevent cancer, lower cholesterol, ward off osteoporosis and lessen the effects of menopause. Most of the health benefits of soya have been attributed to its content of isoflavones that are similar to the hormone oestrogen produced in our body. Soya can reduce LDL (low density “bad” lipoprotein) cholesterol levels, without affecting the levels of the beneficial HDL (high density lipoprotein).
